Internet Safety Tips: Combat Spam, Spyware and Phishing

About the Stop Spam Here Campaign

On May 11th, 2004, Canada's Task Force on Spam was established to oversee and coordinate the implementation of the Anti-Spam Action Plan for Canada. The Task Force was asked to prepare a report on the progress made thus far and to propose any new actions that might be required. The final report was released in May 2005.

Final Report of the Task Force on Spam

The first phase of the campaign strategy was the development of a bilingual Internet-based user-education campaign. Critical to this initiative was the development of consistent key messages and a common look, and the broad dissemination, by a wide range of partners, of three key tips to help users protect themselves and fight spam.

Working with communications and marketing experts, the Task Force on Spam developed an icon that could be hosted on partners' websites and would contain a link to user tips.

The Task Force enlisted both government and non-government partners to host the icon on their websites.

Lastly, we would like to thank both organizations from the private and public sectors, as well as the general public, for their ongoing support. Since the sites (French and English) went live, November 25th 2004, and March 22nd 2006, there have been 2,570,849 visits to the sites. Further, 737 different domains link to both sites. We appreciate your assistance and encourage you to inform others of our website and initiatives. Together, we can put a stop to spam.
